I don't know how many y'all will see this, but I've come back here one time to get the word out to those who do about something very important. In the upcoming November election, the California ballot will feature a bill known as Proposition 8. As most of you are no doubt aware, its purpose is to permanently overturn the recently uplifted ban on gay marriage in said state. I am asking every Californian of voting age who reads this to please vote, and vote no on this outrageous proposition. Even if you don't agree with gay marriage, the right for gay persons to marry is not hurting you, and contrary to the lies being spouted by the supporters of this bill, a no vote on prop. 8 does nothing but continue the legality of marriage between same sex couples in California. It will not mandate that gay marriage be taught in school ((all classes of this nature are strictly voluntary under California law; if a school wanted to teach about marriage-and only high schools have this option-parents who disagree with gay marriage would have the option to have their children only learn about heterosexual unities). It will not force churches who disapprove of homosexuality to sanction marriage between gay couples (the law takes into account religious views), or anything else they've been saying. Do not buy into their scare tactics.

My mum has a partner who happens to be a woman as well. They love each other very much and are considering marriage, but they won't get the chance if proposition 8 passes.

Again, please vote no on proposition 8. It is a hurtful and unnecessary bill. California's gay community has already been through one marriage ban. That was bad enough.

Remember: A yes on 8 is a yes on hate!
