"Alternative" Romances

So I was thinking about inter-racial dating the other day. Here's the thing: Yeah you see inter-racial couples portrayed on Telly, but a good bit of the time the fact that they're inter-racial is a focal point of the story. Why, in situations where two people of different races are together, can't it nearly always simply be two people who love eachother, but just happen to put different things on forms where it says please specify ethnic background, or whatever. Another thing that's worse, anytime there's a character who's gay on a show, they're always friends with other characters who are all straight and are the one's who are romantically involved, and if the gay person does become romantically involved with someone, it's usually a joke sort of situation. Like a gay person can't have an honest, heart felt relationship, and don't even think about showing them being affectionate toward eachother, unless of course it's to get laughs.

The thing I'm saying, is while society may not be as prejudice and sterotypical as it used to be, we definitely still have a ways to go.
